Bloggy Giveaway #3: A & E’s Pride and Prejudice DVD 10th Anniversary Edition

by Dawn on July 30, 2008

in contests & giveaways,featured

You love A&E’s 5-hour miniseries of Pride and Prejudice, right? In my humble opinion, it is the premier film adaptation of Jane Austen’s work. When I discovered the 10th anniversary collector’s set, I wanted one for my own and ordered it at an amazing price from the nice folks at Library and Educational Services, the sponsor of this giveaway.

LES is a wholesale company that does not sell to the general public; they sell only to schools/teachers, homeschools, churches/pastors and other church leaders, libraries, missionaries and resellers. They offer great products such as G. A. Henty books; Your Story Hour and Adventures in Odyssey CDs; VeggieTales DVDs; Focus on the Family Radio Theatre; Elsie Dinsmore books; and A&E DVDs at exceptional savings.

This deluxe 10th Anniversary Limited Collector’s Edition includes:

  • The 5-hour adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel, starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle on 2 DVDs.
  • A 3rd BONUS DVD featuring a new documentary on Jane Austen from the Emmy Award-winning BIOGRAPHY series and an exclusive 10-year retrospective documentary about the making-of the classic production.
  • The Making of Pride and Prejudice 120-page companion book detailing the 18-month journey from original concept to broadcast with full color photos, lavish illustrations, and interviews with the cast and crew.
  • Beautiful gold-embossed green fabric slipcase.

How do you win?

Leave a comment to enter. If you’ve seen this miniseries, tell us your favorite scene! If not, well, I’m really sorry, but we’re trying to do something about that.

While there aren’t any additional requirements, I’d certainly appreciate a tweet, stumble, kirtsy, etc., and there are handy links at the end of this post to make it easy for you.

Subscribe to my feed to find out the winners of all three bloggy giveaways (links to others at bottom of post) or to come back and visit later. This blog chronicles the adventures of life with my hubby and eight children; popular topics include homeschooling, photography, and parenting. And of course, Jane.

Since this giveaway is getting a later start, winner will be chosen randomly from comments on Sunday. This contest is open to both bloggers and non-bloggers, but please use a valid email address when leaving your comment in order to be contacted.

This is the third and final Jane Austen-themed giveaway I’m hosting for the Bloggy Giveaways Carnival. It’s not too late to enter the first two giveaways:

I love the scene where Darcy gives Lizzie what is probably the most original marriage proposal in literature, by insulting her family.

6 Michelle July 30, 2008 at 7:49 pm

My daughter and I love to watch these “dress” movies together, but while we have watched the shorter movie version, we have never seen this one, even though I have been dying to. I would really like to be entered to win it for her and surprise her.

7 Natalie July 30, 2008 at 7:50 pm

Ooo, ooo!!!! Well, I could probably quote the entire thing, does that win me any extra points? :) Favorite scene though? Hmm…probably when Darcy and Elizabeth dance and she’s trying to get him to talk. And the whole rest of the movie’s pretty good too… ;)

I’ve seen it, but only once, so I don’t have any good quotes. Although Mrs. Bennet squawking about all the time makes me laugh. Lizzie’s banter with just about everyone is always enjoyable. If I had my own DVD set, I’d be able to have some favorite quotes.

Anxiously awaiting the drawing of randomnes . . . :D

There are so many great scenes and lines in the movie it is very difficult to choose one. One of my favorites is near the end when Darcy proposes again to Lizzy and tells her he might still be living in pride and conceit were it not for her, “Dearest, loveliest, Elizabeth.” [sigh]

88 Wendy July 31, 2008 at 3:59 pm

I SO love this verson! In my opinion, there just isn’t any other that does it justice. The casting, sets, costumes, and of course the brilliant acting by Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle, as well as the rest…oh my goodness, they’re all so perfectly good! Sorry for blathering like Mrs. Bennett, but I can’t help it, this is my all-time favorite!

I suppose if I’m forced to pick just one scene, out of so many superb ones, it really is a tie between Mr. Darcy’s proposal (and Elizabeth’s sound rejection), Darcy and Elizabeth meeting at Pemberly (and he asks after her family twice, being so flustered to see her), and “The Look” (Darcy’s smile at Elizabeth from across the room while Georgiana plays). Sighhhhhhhhhh…….. :)

OH, MY, GOSH! I love, love, love the A&E version, and only had it on video. Haven’t seen it since giving up my VHS TV. Favorite scenes… #1- when lizzy runs into darcy at his mansion while touring the lakes with her aunt/uncle, #2- when he meets her to tell her he loves her against his better judgement, and #3- when he finds her to see if she’s changed her mind after the aunt visits in the middle of the night.

90 Hillary July 31, 2008 at 5:20 pm

Scene, when she is visiting the house with her friends and HE comes home – oops. (think that is the correct movie)

The whole book is about misunderstandings.

109 Melissa M. July 31, 2008 at 11:20 pm

My favorite scene (well, one of many) is when Elizabeth is visiting Darcy’s house and he comes home early. I also love when Lady Catherine visits Elizabeth. :)

I’ve seen this miniseries about a million times but don’t own the DVDs so I would love to win! My favorite scenes are when Mr. Bennett makes fun of his chatty wife and her nerves. :) Thanks for the giveaway.

115 Ebie August 1, 2008 at 12:29 am

my mom has this, and we perpetually watch “the fourth one” – it’s become the only P&P we watch, the 4th dvd

116 Cynthia Sheeks August 1, 2008 at 12:34 am

Oh, I finally just saw this for the first time a few days ago! P&P is my favorite Jane Austen story and I really felt this was so well done. Firth as Darcy is incomparable. My favorite scene is the one in which he first declares (reluctantly!) his love for her.

117 Jeanine August 1, 2008 at 1:01 am

I loved Darcy’s proposal.

132 lovedandamazed August 1, 2008 at 1:40 pm

Ooops, I forgot my favorite scene! I will add it and copy my previous comment so that you may delete it.

This might be incredibly selfish of me to enter, considering I already own this movie on VHS and DVD… but I have never seen the making-of book or the other bonus material included. Plus I do have 2 teenage sisters who will eventually want to own it themselves… so I would share the joy. That makes me feel better. :-)

My favorite scene is pretty much all of “Episode 4″ – from Mr. Darcy writing the letter, Lizzy reading the letter, Lizzy going to Pemberley and being struck with how different Darcy is than she believed, Darcy going swimming, and their unexpected meeting. That whole hour is so well-done!

Thank you!

i’ve heard so many good things about the mini-series, but have yet to see it.

149 Jacque August 3, 2008 at 4:02 am

Oh yes, I was wondering if this was the post to put my favorite scene on.
I see many others love my favorite scene: The pond scene. I was devastated when the girls read the books and told me it was not actually in them. Wow. I love it when he rides up to the pond and gets off to dive in, because I just know what is coming! LOL

Anyway, there you go. It would still be as awesome a movie without the scene. I also like the scene where Darcy asks her to dance and she agrees and is mad at herself… or when Elizabeth tromps through the mud intentionally to go to Bingley’s to see her sister. Oh, it is so good. The whole movie is my favorite, perhaps with the exception of Mr. Collins. HA!

In the new one, Jocelyn and I always CRACK UP when “Darcy” repeats “I love, love, love you.” It sounds like he just forgot what he was supposed to say, so he repeats himself. Anyway, Amanda does not care so much for Colin Firth, so she likes the newer version better, and Jocelyn and I like to laugh about the “I love, love, love you” part! :)

blessings!
