This blog is powered by WordPress, sweet tea, gummy bears, Nikon, Photoshop, Lightroom, and bloggable moments provided by my husband and our eight children. I hope it substitutes in some small way for incomplete baby books and unfilled photo albums.

My web design business is Barefoot Blog Designs, and I write for The Homeschool Post, Homeschool Bliss, and Heart of the Matter. I photoblog, and my friend Melissa and I help little girls look their best with Love-Me-Knots.

Weekly Verse

Galatians 2:20
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Photoshop World: Girl Power

September 9, 2008
[I apologize for the cheesiness of this post title; however, I was forced to watch a documentary on Posh and Becks at the end of my last flight home, and the title of the Spice Girls' book stuck in my head.]

It’s becoming obvious to me that my Photoshop World experience will be broken up into multiple posts.  Today’s post is about four female instructors whom I had to pleasure to observe.

In no particular order:

Lesa Snider King: I wish Lesa lived next door to me. She is just so spunky, fun, and knowledgeable, that I would invite her over every day and feed her in exchange for tutorials.  Lesa is a stock photographer and chief evangelist for iStockphoto; she gave me some great ideas for taking the stock I use for web design and giving it some extra punch.  She also wore a groovy little Star Trek dress to teach her class. How cool is that?

Julianne Kost: Julianne is the Digital Imaging Evangelist for Adobe Systems.  She has an amazing technique for taking multiple photos and textures and creating fascinating composite images.  Her class on Lightroom 2 on the tech expo floor was wonderful.  Julianne dealt with her fear of flying by taking photographs out of plane windows over a period of four to five years, and turned those photographs into a book: Window Seat. Sadly enough, I had aisle seats on both of my flights home. Last, but not least, she has really good hair.

Fay Sirkis: Fay can take a photograph and turn it into fine art. In her class “The Eyes are the Windows to the Soul,” she taught us how to “paint” the eyes of a photograph, a technique that I’m itching to try now.

Laurie Excell: What an amazing nature photographer! It was unfortunate that her class “The Exposure Triangle - Settings for Beautiful Images” was the very last one on of the conference and my brain was a little fried by that point, because I’m still not perfectly comfortable with my camera. It did remind me about the 5-class pass I have for Wolf Camera which needs to be used.

Stay tuned for more Photoshop World recaps!
