Bloggy Giveaways: Greatest Secrets of the Coupon Mom (and all about the Grocery Game)

by Dawn on October 27, 2008

in contests & giveaways

A mom in our homeschool co-op recently shared with us about the Grocery Game, a grocery shopping system which utilizes coupons from the Sunday newspaper and weekly web-generated lists to find the rock-bottom prices for groceries in your area. Here is information from their website:

What is The Grocery Game?
The Grocery Game is a website that can save you hundreds of dollars on your grocery bill each month. Log in, spend a few minutes with a pair of scissors, and you’re off to win The Grocery Game!

When you play, you’ll get a weekly list (called Teri’s List) of the lowest-priced products at your supermarket matched with manufacturers’ coupons and weekly specials — advertised and unadvertised. The Grocery Game does all the hard work and research, and presents it to you in a straightforward format.

What do the colors on Teri’s List mean?
Teri’s List is color-coded. Black items are a good price. Buy these if you need the item now. Blue items are for stockpiling. We do not expect this item to go lower so stock up while the price is at rock bottom. Green items are free. These are not “Buy one get one free” but are actually free after sale and coupon. All you pay is sales tax!

I haven’t used coupons in years. Since we have a large family, I have assumed that stores like warehouse clubs were the only way to go for us, and we don’t subscribe to the paper.

I was so impressed by the testimony of my friend who has been using the system that I had to try it, especially since you get a four week free trial on the website. Go here to see a sample of how the lists look.

After clipping my coupons and printing my list, I ventured to Kroger for a late shopping trip last week, playing the Grocery Game for the first time. I saved $61.19, which was 40% of my total bill!!

I am also using The Couponizer to organize my coupons, and I LOVE it! It’s a sturdy binder with places for all your coupons to be stored by category, plus it comes with scissors, shopping lists, and a bag for storing your organizer. For a limited time, a copy of Greatest Secrets of the Coupon Mom is included.

Since I already received this book from the Dave Ramsey booth at a homeschool conference this summer, I have an extra copy to give away!

Wow – what a great idea! Right after I was laid off about 6 years ago I went into hyper coupon mode and I did very well! I looked for items that the stores actually paid me to take… for example a 50 cent box of pasta and I had a 50 cent off coupon that the store doubled. That only happened like once – but I definitely need a way to organize my coupons! I have them everywhere…

2 Joy October 27, 2008 at 2:02 pm

This book looks great! I have just started using coupons. My goal each week is to save 5% off groceries. Hopefully i’ll continue to increase that. We shop at a military grocery store (commisary) so they don’t have the shopper clubs.
