This Too Shall Pass

3/365

Box

A friend once told me that eventually the desire for more children would eventually pass. Her goal was to have all of her kids by the time she was thirty; she had four.

Another couple we know had all they could with a deadline of thirty-five years old for the mother; they had five.

When my husband and I got married I wanted three children and he wanted one. Obviously we blew those numbers out of the water. We’ve never set a goal for how many children we’d have or how old we’d be when we finished. In the last year, however, I’ve realized that I’m content with our numbers. The desire for more has finally faded.

Two nights ago I decided to clear out and reclaim most of the top shelf of my wardrobe, which has housed baby blankets, burp cloths, and waterproof pads for the past few years. That night I dreamed that I was six months pregnant, due in June, certainly a reaction to this mental finishing of a chapter in my life.

The box went to the basement this evening.

Dawn,

I congratulate you on doing the 365. I would like to think I could do that! If your area has any good HS or women event stuff going on I would love to know about it. I am just south of you in GA…not too far away. :) I would love to meet you one day.

I had 6 difficult pregnancies, 2 miscarriages and 4 complicated c-sections. Our doctor said we couldn’t have another child after #2 but we knew in our hearts that wasn’t right and God blessed us with 2 more.

I had my youngest at age 33 and honestly, never had a desire for more children. Many of my friends didn’t understand, but it was and is true– there was never a moment when I longed for another.

You’re so right… it does pass :)

I would like to ask if you intend to KEEP the box that went down to the basement. ;) It was a little bit of a surprise to me, after our third baby was born, that I was boxing up the maternity clothes to keep the majority of them. BUT, I have been gradually going through the smaller sizes of kids’ clothes in the attic and getting rid of a lot. Still haven’t touched the maternity clothes, though…
