I ♥ Faces: Sports in Action (week 27)

One of this week’s themes at iHeartFaces is “Sports in Action” and the guest judge is Rog Ellsworth of EPlove!

This is a photo I took of my son running toward the finish line in a cross country meet last fall. I missed the bottom of his feet, but I love that the pan actually worked and he’s well-focused (both in camera and in mind, to make it to the finish).

I get a kick out of the fact that the guy turning around behind him was the official team photographer, who obviously missed the shot.

Great shot, Dawn! How were you able to keep him in focus like that? I have lots of sports shots but the action in the entire picture is frozen.

I love how the image of your son stays very clear and sharp –how did you do that?

Buckeroomama, I just kept the camera on him and panned along as he ran, snapping all the way. Keeping the camera moving with him kept him in focus and the background blurred.

Looks like the team photographer was otherwise engaged :)
What kind of lens were you using when you shot this?
Very neat!

What a wonderful shot! I too love the focus on him (both camera-wise and on his face)
