Harry Connick, Jr. is a personal favorite {insert dreamy sigh…}. In March of 2007 I posted about getting concert tickets to see him in Atlanta at The Fox. We own seven of his CDs, plus the Only You concert DVD. Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without Harry on the stereo.
Harry’s newest CD, Your Songs, features classics by some of the greatest musicians of all time, complete with full jazz band and string orchestra. In a word, this album is smooth. And sophisticated. Perfect background music for a dinner party or a quiet evening.
In typical Harry fashion, he wrote the orchestrations himself. Your Songs features guest appearances by enormously talented fellow New Orleans entertainers Branford and Wynton Marsalis.
Album Tracklisting:
All The Way (Frank Sinatra)
Just The Way You Are (Billy Joel)
Can’t Help Falling In Love With You (Elvis Presley)
And I Love Her (The Beatles)
(They Long To Be) Close To You (The Carpenters)
Besame Mucho
The Way You Look Tonight
First Time Ever I Saw Your Face (Roberta Flack)
Your Song (Elton John)
Some Enchanted Evening
And I Love You So (Don McLean)
Who Can I Turn To? (Tony Bennett)
Smile (Charlie Chaplin)
Mona Lisa (Nat King Cole)
If I had Harry’s ear, I would put in a request: after such a polished collection, I’d love to hear some fresh and funky Harry in the next album, à la “(I Could Only) Whisper Your Name,” or “We are in Love.”
Fan Harry’s official page on Facebook.

My favorite Harry Connick, Jr. song? It’s hard to pick just one! I’ve heard part of his version of “Some Enchanted Evening,” and I really liked it! 🙂

Don’t get around much anymore from the greatest soundtrack ever, “Harry met Sally”. His take on the standards is still some of the most beautiful innovative jazz ever.
Can’t wait to hear the new one.

I love “Recipe for Love”… I saw him at Chastain back in ’89 or ’90… he puts on a great show!
The only Harry Jr. I can think of is the soundtrack to The Happy Elf, such a cute kids movie with a soundtrack the kids love and I don’t mind hearing over and over (you know how kids are) and over again 🙂
Would love to hear something new from him!
Hmmm. Hard to pick. So just to be ornery, I’m going to say “Just the Way You Look Tonight” even though I haven’t heard it yet — because it’s a sentimental favorite, and I can already hear Harry singing it in my imagination, and it’s gooood. 🙂
Lynn
who was once sitting in a hotel lobby in Santa Fe visiting with a woman who was nursing a baby when Harry walked up to talk to the woman about where to meet the family for lunch, and he stood next to me and chatted very comfortably with her until he looked over at me and realized that I was not family, whereupon he shyly excused himself and darted out of the lobby at lightning speed, leaving his relative to laugh at him and explain to me that the whole Connick family was there on vacation together and that he was hoping not to be recognized in public. Yep, one of the great thrills of my life. 🙂

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, Harry. Love him.
It’s really, really hard to pick a favorite! I think it would be “With Imagination” (from Red Light/Blue Light). That song just really shows his musical talent and his New Orleans roots.
Mitch and I were in New Orleans a year ago and shared an elevator with him. So kind and handsome. I couldn’t speak, but Mitch could. 🙂
According to FB, you were posting this at 4 am? Really?
Yes! I love Harry and his voice. Sadly, I don’t own any of his CDs. As silly as that sounds. His voice is so smooth……….(and dreamy)

My favorite has always been “Just Kiss Me!”

The only Harry Connick Jr. music that I own is a Christmas album that I’ve had for YEARS and we love it! But my roommate and I used to listen to another CD in college that had several that I liked. Probably my favorite is Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off.
Ha ha Hubby would love to learn that I am entering this giveaway…he used to play with Harry and his good friend is currently Harry’s Bass player!
Troy is a Jazz drummer here in New Orleans…anyway favorite is
The Way You Look Tonight
Thanks!!
This is embarrassing, but I don’t think I know many of his songs! Reading the postings has made me want to buy the Christmas CD and maybe another one! Hope I can still be part of the draw despite my ignorance!
Call me cheesy, but I love his Christmas CD’s!! 🙂
Well, he’s been a favorite for a long time! My husband and I used to listen to Harry all the time, and Christmas is hallmarked by his music in our home. Nostalgically, our favorite is “Don’t get Around Much Anymore”. Although, I have a soft spot for the wacky StarTurtle CD since I decorated my 2nd child’s 1st birthday cake in honor of it. 😉

Paul and I love jazz. We just do not get out enough to see a live performance.
I heard him sing his Christmas CD on tv one year, and this request is just the reminder to get it for this Christmas season. I loved the way he put the bluesy and jazzy tune into these classic songs. One of my favorite was the funky tune of We Three Kings.
Oh my, oh my, oh my! I have loved his voice and musical talent for years.
So many favorites to choose from, but the one that always gets stuck in my head is “Recipe for Love”… a little bit of me and a whole lot of you… Oh and “Save the Last Dance for Me” is dreamy too.
*sigh*

I am still kicking myself for not seeing him in concert when I had the chance– and that was 13 years ago! (don’t laugh!) 🙂

Oh yeah, I facebooked it too. I am so his fan. I wonder if my husband would be jealous?

Honestly, my favorite songs of his are from the When Harry Met Sally CD. I used to listen to that soundtrack everyday to and from work in High School. I own several other Harry Connick CDs that I love.

My fave song: Tangerine. 😉 We used to have a cat named Tangie and Kev and I used to sing that song to her and dance around the room when we were dating and crazy. Er, I guess we are still crazy. I haven’t heard that song in a long time. I guess I need to get out all my HC albums and have another listen! Thanks for the reminder.
He also did a song on Sleepless in Seattle, right? There’s one song of his that was in a movie… “all green lights and rights…”? That one is another fave.
It’s so sad how I’ve migrated away from listening to music like I really want to because my life is so busy with homeschooling and raising babies… I don’t have time to get my songs organized. I need secretary who can get all my music on my iPhone or iPod so I can play it on whim. Ugh.
I need a week with six Saturdays.
