When I became a parent, I slowly quit allowing myself the freedom to let go, to run, to explore, to see through the eyes of a child. Caring for small children takes time and responsibility. It’s only been recently—realizing that my youngest is six and no longer needs the attention of a baby or toddler—that my mind has awakened to the possibility that I can participate more than in the past.
I’m not as fast or strong or limber as I used to be, but I don’t necessarily want to spend life sitting on the bench. Sometimes I need to come out from behind the camera, too (it’s a really convenient place to observe instead of engage in the action).
What about you? Do you watch or participate?

Barbie, I’m sure I must have been on my way up or down, right, not at the highest point? 😉
Joy, sometimes we don’t even realize that we’ve taken ourselves out of the game.
