My new favorite gift idea is timeless; it gives in the moment and then keeps on giving. You see, I’m a looking-for-a-good-excuse-to-give-a-gift giver. It blesses my socks off to surprise a friend and let them know they’re in my thoughts today.

We all need to feel special sometimes. And isn’t it true that we’re as blessed in the giving as those who receive?

I’ve decided on home-baked goodies delivered on a beautiful plate as my new go-to idea. After the treats disappear, you’ve got a new platter or dinner/special occasion plate.

Imagine a dish that circulates among friends and neighbors, brimming with home-baked love at each stop!

When DaySpring asked if I’d like to feature a favorite item from their Christmas collection and offer you a discount code, I combined my new gift idea with the Love Came Down Embossed Dinner Plate.

I’m charmed by its understated elegance.

The tree. The birds. The crimson and gold! Those words: No greater Love than Jesus.

Amen!

This week I’ve delivered a plate of iced sugar cookies to my daughter’s Classical Conversations class and my Otis Spunkmeyer Knock-Off Chocolate Chip Cookies (recipe below) to the crew at our local Moe’s. After the class and the crew ate the cookies, these lovely plates went home with my daughter’s tutor and our Moe’s manager.

A Steal of a Deal!

The Love Came Down Embossed Dinner Plate normally sells for $19.99, but DaySpring just marked down the Love Came Down- Gifts & Home Decor collection by 60% so you can get it for only $7.99!

Code DawnShip20 gets you free shipping on an order over $20, so you can buy 3 plates for a total of $23.97. Load ’em down with sweet treats and deliver gifts with a personal touch.

If you’re like me and don’t have Christmas china, this would also make a great time to gift yourself a set {or forward this post to someone who might—wink! wink!}. Starting Monday the entire DaySpring Christmas Line is 25% off!

What’s your favorite go-to gift idea?

Otis Spunkmeyer Knock-Off Chocolate Chip Cookies
Author:
Recipe type: Dessert

This is a knock-off of Otis Spunkmeyer chocolate chip cookies. They're a perfect texture, not too sweet, and keep their shape while cooking.
Ingredients
  • ½ cup butter (1 stick)
  • ½ cup vegetable shortening (Crisco Butter Flavor)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla
  • 2¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips (one 10-12 oz. package)
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts (4 oz. package - optional)
Instructions
  1. Combine flour and baking powder in a small bowl and mix with a whisk. Set aside.
  2. Melt butter/shortening in a microwave oven, stopping and stirring every 15 seconds. Stop when the butter is more of a paste.
  3. Pour over granulated sugar, brown sugar, salt, and vanilla in a large mixing bowl and beat well.
  4. Add each egg separately, beating until creamy.
  5. Add flour mixture ½ cupo at a time while beating.
  6. Stir in chocolate chips and (optional) walnuts.
  7. Refrigerate for 1-3 hours in covered bowl. Pre-heat oven to 375°. Drop dough in large, rounded tablespoonful size (or small ice cream scoop) onto cookie sheet.
  8. Bake 10-12 minutes, until golden brown.
  9. Yield: approximately 3½ dozen.
