5 Favorite DIY Recipes with Essential Oils

One of my favorite things to do with our Young Living essential oils is create non-toxic, chemical-free DIY health and beauty items, and these are five of my favorite recipes for moisturized skin and glossy lips: Peppermint Sugar Scrub, Anti-Aging Face Serum, Energizing Body Oil, Rosemary Remembrance Balm, and Cinna-Mint Lip Gloss.

I hope they inspire you to whip up some DIY beauty products of your own!

See the bottom of the post for information about the essential oils I use.

(Watch this video on The Story of Cosmetics and you might be ready to ditch and switch a lot of the products your family uses in place of natural alternatives too.)

Peppermint Sugar Scrub

Peppermint Sugar Scrub
Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup grapeseed, coconut, or jojoba, oil
  • 5 drops Young Living Peppermint essential oil
  • either one 8 oz. or two 4 oz. Mason jar(s)
  • 1-3 Tbsp. colored sugar (optional, for fun!)

Pamper your hands and body with the combination of sugar’s ability to exfoliate, the cool tingle of Peppermint essential oil, and the skin softening power of grapeseed oil. You won’t believe how soft your skin will feel!

Add more more carrier oil (the fatty vegetable oil, not the essential oil) if needed to reach your preferred consistency. A cute spoon is fun to scoop out the sugar scrub; look for them at your local thrift store. Four ounce Mason jars and (optional) white plastic lids can be found at Walmart.

Anti-Aging Face Serum

Anti-Aging Facial Serum
Ingredients:

Drip oils into the bottom of a 10ml glass roller bottle and fill remainder with grapeseed oil. Shake gently to combine. Wash your face; roll serum onto areas with age spots, fine lines, and uneven skin tone; smooth in gently with your fingers; and then use your regular moisturizer.

Treat yourself to the cool touch of a rose quartz facial roller to help the serum penetrate your skin!

Energizing Body Oil

Energizing body oil
Ingredients:

Combine essential oils and carrier oil in glass bottle with pump. Cypress is good for circulation and Grapeseed oil helps get rid of the dimples we don’t love on our arms and legs. Apply after showering like you would use lotion.

Rosemary Remembrance Balm

Rosemary Remembrance Balm
Ingredients:

Combine base carrier oil and beeswax in pan over low heat or in double boiler. Warm until the beeswax melts (which may be longer than you think) and then remove from heat and allow to cool for five minutes. Stir in Rosemary essential oil and then pour into Mason jar, capping the jar immediately. The mixture will thicken as it cools.

Store at room temperature and use within one year.

Rosemary oil is my favorite and I made this oil based on the description of its ability to refresh and clarify the mind by dabbing it on your temples, nape of the neck, base of the throat, or behind your ears. What I’ve found, however, is that this balm is amazing for dry, irritated skin. I have a lot of skin issues and this has been a lifesaver, especially for my hands. I LOVE it!

Cinna-Mint Lip Gloss

Cinna-Mint Lip Gloss
Ingredients:

Combine essential oils in glass roller bottle and then add castor oil and vegetable glycerin. Shake well for 2 minutes and then store for 24 hours to allow the oils to synergize. Shake well before each use. Use within one year.

Do you remember the thick, lip-smacking lip glosses we wore in junior high and high school? I do. This luscious gloss treat is natural and chemical-free. Cinnamon bark and peppermint are “hot” oils so expect a tingle. (The flavors will not fully develop until the gloss has sat for a day.)

I’m slightly obsessed with this lip gloss!
